Website and branding for Hannie McCallum
Hannie is a mixed media artist, with a large back catalogue of work who needed a website that would allow her to showcase her older work alongside an online shop to sell selected pieces.
She had begun a website herself using Wix, but soon realised that the learning curve for her to do everything was going to take longer than she would like, so she turned to us to speed up the process.
As a complete novice in the area of websites I asked an artist-friend how she created her website and she referred me to Glenda with a glowing endorsement.
From my very first contact with Glenda I felt that she understood me and what I envisioned my website to be. She fully appreciated the particular features of website design for an artist and translated my ideas and needs into the simple but beautiful website I now have.
We took some colour samples from one of Hannie’s colourful paintings to generate a palette of vibrant blues with a hot pink accent colour.
Hannie had already started work on her website and had a two year plan with Wix. We discussed the pros and cons of starting over on WordPress, but in this instance, we felt it was better for Hannie to stay on the platform she was familiar with.
We chose a sans serif, well spaced font to create a clear logo in Hannie’s signature blue shade, paired with a soft cool grey.
With so much colour and detail in her paintings, we made the most of them throughout the site, using them as backgrounds, using overlays to ensure enough contrast with the page contents.
Right from the start, the project involved training via screen sharing and email. We backed this up with screen recorded videos to give Hannie a visual reminder of how to do the tasks she will need on an ongoing basis.
Branding package
We created a business card for Hannie using the same logo and similar design features to the website. The card shows a strip of a painting on one side and a transparent white overlay tones the image down to allow the text to be read.
If she requires leaflets or other online graphics in the future, Hannie knows she can come back to us for a consistent look across all media.
Here’s what Hannie had to say about working with us.

During the design process Glenda (and Adrian) guided me through the technical ins and outs of the website and she patiently taught me how to manage it on my own. In doing this she gave me confidence in my own ability to handle the website. In the period after publishing the website she continued to assist with prompt and constructive responses to my queries and uncertainties.
Many people have complimented me on my website which has certainly generated a gratifyingly greater interest than I had anticipated. In less than a month after the launch I had sold a painting through the website. I wholeheartedly recommend Glendrian Creative.
